Our research (August 8, 2026) found a long-standing regional practice that added GLP-1s to an existing structure rather than building a business around them.

Since 1986

MWLC describes itself as "Michigan's trusted leader in weight loss since 1986," operating 12 locations. That is nearly four decades of continuous operation in the same market. The significance is structural. Most compounded GLP-1 sellers appeared during the 2021-2024 shortage window, when compounding copies of scarce brand-name drugs was broadly permitted. A practice that predates that window by 35 years is not exposed to it in the same way.

Medication Sits Inside a Program

MWLC is explicit that the medication is an addition, not the whole offering:

"When used in conjunction with a structured meal plan, exercise and support from our professionals at Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Semaglutide can be very effective for weight loss and improving overall health."

Patients in the prescription therapy program see a medical provider once a month, and the company states this is "in addition to our personalized counseling services," with the combination intended to help patients maintain "a healthier approach to life." That ordering matters. The evidence is clear that GLP-1 weight loss substantially reverses after discontinuation, and that behavioural support alongside medication is what the trials actually studied — participants in STEP and SURMOUNT received lifestyle intervention as well as drug. A practice that already ran the counselling infrastructure is delivering something closer to the trial protocol than a shipped vial is.

Physicians and Monthly Visits

MWLC states that its program is "administered by Michigan and Ohio Board Certified Physicians" and that patients see a medical provider monthly. Monthly in-person physician contact is a higher standard of monitoring than most telehealth programs offer, and considerably higher than the every-six-months check-ins some competitors describe. The program begins with "a personal consultation at one of 12 convenient Medical Weight Loss Clinic locations."

Framing and Limits

MWLC's description of GLP-1s is measured — "injectable medications containing Semaglutide can ease hunger and provide a much-needed extra boost" for patients who struggle "despite making healthy choices." Calling it a boost rather than a transformation is closer to the truth than most marketing in this space. The practical limits are real. This is a Michigan practice with physicians licensed in Michigan and Ohio; if you live elsewhere it is not available to you. No pricing is published, though flexible membership options are mentioned. And we could not establish whether the GLP-1s prescribed are brand-name or compounded, or which pharmacy is used — an important gap given how much of our assessment elsewhere turns on that question.
